Our first barley dashboard looks at the supply of malting and feed barley, the demand for malt from the beer and whiskey industry, the stock-to-use (STU) ratio, and barley price development. The barley price is currently higher than in 2019/20 when supply was very strong, but below the peak seen in 2022. Demand from the beer and whiskey industry has softened and the price of alternative feed grains such as corn and wheat has fallen due to a bumper harvest in the US, pushing feed barley prices lower. Though the fundamentals for the barley industry remain soft, the low STU ratio is likely to provide some support at current price levels.
