Growing G&O potential in the Danube basin and the Black Sea

Eastern Europe and countries in the Danube River basin have emerged as a growing hub for grain and oilseed exports via the Black Sea after February 2022 and the start of the war in Ukraine.

This study looks at the production, potential export developments, and business opportunities of five countries located in the Danube basin. In our opinion, it is a crucial region for players currently active in deficit G&O markets who aspire to improve G&O sourcing. We see a number of business opportunities and investments required to fulfil the potential of the Danube region.

Companies pursuing these opportunities must take a careful approach, as there are several challenges: geopolitical developments in the region, the impact of climate change on local production, country stability, and developing EU regulation.
