North American pulp and paper products face temporary pricing implications and a potential reorganization of the fiber supply chain amid Trump’s economic statecraft.

Intro

As a heavily traded commodity, pulp and paper products face short-term pricing implications and a potential reorganization of the fiber supply chain in the long term following Trump’s economic statecraft. More uncertainty may be coming, with potential impacts on local North American containerboard demand and production.

RaboResearch’s latest forecasts for the containerboard sector suggest:

Demand growth is set to reach 1.7% CAGR in the next 24 months, in line with previous expectations. The supply outlook remains flat from the improved operating rates in Q4 2024. Developments in linerboard prices are positive, with prices approaching USD 1,000/metric ton in 2026.
