As consumers search for convenience while reducing their spending in food, they are turning to supermarkets for meals for immediate consumption and ready meals for at home. Grocers are jumping at the opportunity and upgrading their offer. They hope to capture more traffic now and to benefit from consumers trading up from other food categories in the future . To remain relevant to consumes, foodservice operators will need to leverage their “service” side. They will need to offer consumers an overall superior experience that justifies paying more than for a supermarket alternative.
