Utrecht, 27 February 2025 – Rabobank presents its new sponsorship collaborations today, in which the bank further strengthens its role as a partner of sports in the Netherlands. An important part of this is the return to cycling as the shirt sponsor of Team Visma | Lease a Bike. Additionally, Rabobank is expanding its partnership with NOC*NSF as top partner of TeamNL. The cooperative bank will also invest more in hockey. Supporting talent development and grassroots sports runs as a common thread through all partnerships.
Shirt sponsor of cycling team Visma | Lease a Bike, and expansion of partnership with NOC*NSF and TeamNL, with a focus on talent development and grassroots sports
“Rabobank has been supporting sports in the Netherlands for many years. From enthusiastic amateur basketball players to ambitious hockey talents, and from young athletes with Olympic and Paralympic dreams to now professional cyclists as well. With the addition of Team Visma | Lease a Bike to our sports partnerships, we return to our old love: cycling. As the shirt sponsor of both the men's and women's teams, as well as the Development Team, we look forward to supporting the new generation of cycling talent together," explains Stefaan Decraene, Chair of the Managing Board of Rabobank.
Richard Plugge, Managing Director of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, adds: 'This is the best sign we can receive as a cycling sport: that a party with so much history in the sport and so much social involvement says: we want to be a part of this.'"
International and Olympic Dreams
For many years, the bank has been collaborating with sports umbrella organization NOC*NSF. Starting in 2025, TeamNL can also be added as a partner, including during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. From A to Z, from athletics to sailing.
Stefaan Decraene: “Our partnership with TeamNL seamlessly aligns with our commitment to the talent pool of sports in the Netherlands: the unique club and association life. Through programs like Rabo ClubSupport, the bank has been supporting associations for years, often together with NOC*NSF, with its network, knowledge and money. It is an honor to work with Team NL to help the talents that these clubs have produced in realizing their international and Olympic or Paralympic ambitions."
Marc van den Tweel, CEO of NOC*NSF: "The role of Rabobank in Dutch sports has been of crucial importance for many years. The fact that Rabobank is now deepening and expanding the partnership with elite sports is a wonderful and logical step. It underscores the connection we know in our country between the local sports infrastructure and the fantastic performances of TeamNL, also on an international level. Team NL has become a household name in a very short time, partly due to its visibility in Paris and the Team NL House, making it the Dutch sports brand. It connects the national pride in our athletes in orange with NOC*NSF's aim to let everyone experience the joy of sports."
In addition, the bank will remain connected to hockey in the coming years as a partner of the KNHB and the main sponsor of the national teams. The collaboration with the hockey association – of course also member of TeamNL - will be intensified around the Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium in 2026 and expanded to include the national training and youth teams, including Jong Oranje and a new form of hockey; Hockey 5s.
Keeping Sports Accessible
Rabobank is going to do even more to keep sports accessible for everyone and to get more people involved in sports. Therefore, Rabobank contributes to various initiatives. For example, Team Visma | Lease a Bike and Rabobank are working together with the Ready2Race foundation to organize Fat Tire Races for children. The goal is to get as many children as possible on bicycles. Rabobank is also affiliated to the
Hockey Foundation, an initiative by the bank and the KNHB to make hockey more accessible to a larger audience. The Foundation does this by establishing clubs and launching initiatives from existing clubs in neighborhoods where playing hockey is not a given.
"Less money is becoming available from the government for Dutch sports. As cooperative bank, we are therefore stepping up to keep the Dutch people active and engaged in sports together. This is in keeping with our rich cooperative tradition. In 2024 alone, half a million Rabobank members distributed 16 million euros among 33,000 clubs and associations. Additionally, the bank also contributed 125 euros per child to the sports fees of more than 150,000 children through the ‘Rabo Sportactie’," says Decraene.
Expansion to Music and Art
In addition to sponsoring sports, Rabobank also focuses on music and art. A partnership has been established with MOJO, the organizer of concerts and music festivals, for example. Furthermore, the bank is solidifying its collaboration with Depot Boijmans van Beuningen. In the coming years, Rabobank will also continue to organize exhibitions in its own Rabo Art Space.
